Homemade Spider-Man Suit Costume Ideas

Spider-Man has worn many outfits to fight crime through the years. Although he may use different types of suits during the course of his time as a Superhero, one thing remains true: Peter Parker is never seen without his iconic red & blue Spider-Man Suit when swinging around the streets of Manhattan.

Once Peter Parker’s training with Tony Stark begins, however, he starts wearing different homemade costumes. But before he got to that point with high-tech Spidey suits, he had to start with a thrifty get-up.

One of the highlights of Spidey’s debut in the MCU was the creation of the first homemade Spider-Man suit that Peter makes out of an old red and blue sweatshirt and pants.

Starting Your Homemade Spider-Man Suit Cosplay

Spider-Man’s suit in the new movie Homecoming is totally different from any of his other suits before. It’s made out of fabric instead of the usual spandex, and it has a homemade feel to it. So I decided to try and make my own version of the suit from the movie. And let me tell you, it was not easy!

But it was definitely worth it in the end. If you’re interested in making your own Spider-Man suit, keep reading for my step-by-step guide. Trust me, it’s easier than it looks!

Suit up with this homemade Spidey outfit, and you’ll be ready to fight crime in no time! Here is how you do it:

• Buy a solid blue sweatsuit, including the sweatpants and a long-sleeved sweatshirt.
• Buy a sleeveless red T-shirt, or cut the sleeves off of a regular T-shirt.
• On the front of the T-shirt, draw a spider right in the middle of the shirt. If you’re bad at drawing, find an iron-on emblem of a spider and attach it that way.
• With a permanent black marker, draw parallel vertical lines on the top part of the shirt to look like a spider web.
• Take some fabric paint in white and go over the same lines to give the spider web a nice 3D look.
• Buy some long, elbow-length red gloves.
• Buy some knee-length red boots or long red socks that will look like boots once you put them on.
• For the mask, buy some Lycra in red and cut out the eye holes, then wear them over a set of goggles.
• For the web shooters, trace the wrist pieces onto a sheet of craft foam (black or gray), then do the same thing with 1.2” x .79” rectangles for the wrist straps. Cut them out and put them together with hot glue. Then place Velcro strips to the last rectangle piece on both ends, which you’ll use to fasten the web shooters around your wrists.

There are variations to all of these steps in the process, which means you have a lot of options when it comes to making the perfect Spider-Man costume.

Mask & Goggles

Peter’s first homemade spider-man costume features a red ski mask which he cuts out eye holes. He placed some Steampunk-style goggles over the eyeholes to complete the look.

Sweatsuit

Peter’s first suit looks like something you could easily pick up at a thrift store. It features a blue sweater and sweat pants, with a red short-sleeved hoodie over the top. He paints a spider-man symbol on the front of the vest, completing his costume.

Gloves

A homemade Spidey costume isn’t complete without gloves! Peter’s homemade Spidey suit gloves are fingerless, which allows him to still use his phone and web-shooters while in costume.

Web-Shooters

While in costume, Peter uses homemade web-shooters made from a pair of walkie-talkies and a car remote. It’s rudimentary technology, but it gets the job. Well, almost.
